Casa do Porco

Of the three cities I’ve visited in Brasil, São Paulo is my favorite food city. Its easy to get caught up on wanting to eat rodizio or açaí all the time, but São Paulo proved to my friends and I that there’s more to their food scene than the stereotypical Brasillian dishes that we Americans are accustomed to.  One restaurant that stood out to us during out visit is called Casa do Porco.

Literally translated as “House of Pork”, the restaurant’s menu is a haven for all pork lovers. It was hard to narrow down what dishes we want to order so we went with our server’s suggestion: De Tudo Um Porco, or in English, All of the Pig! Basically, you just leave it up to the chef to make you a multi-course meal, featuring the gloriousness of the pig for roughly R$90-R$100.

Our party of 8 was not disappointed at all.  It seemed as if the onyx-colored serving plates endlessly kept heading to our table. I believe we had about 10 dishes before we were handed the dessert menu! Favorites of the group was the sushi de papada de porco (pork jowl sushi, a must!), the charcuterie with headcheese, cracklings topped with guava, and the flan with cotton candy. Personally, I felt the chef’s selection highlighted all of the amazing aspects of pork.

We all had a great time here, especially since our server was awesome and even served us a round of cachaça to get us in a festive mood. I highly recommend having a meal at Casa do Porco if you ever are visiting São Paulo.
